Oct. 24, 2018 10:21 am
The classic American Rodgers and Hammerstein musical comedy Oklahoma! returns to Danville High School this fall. The production, slated for Nov. 2 and 3, marks the 75th anniversary of the musical, which opened at the St. James Theatre on Broadway in 1943.
Oklahoma! presents the drama of young love and the message of working together toward a common goal. American soldiers returning from, or departing for, foreign soil during World War II saw the production as an embodiment of the American spirit. Today Oklahoma! serves as a reminder to put aside differences, whether political or personal, and work side-by-side for a greater good. It is a timely message for all Americans.
Kale Schuff and Peyton Carr take on the roles of Curly and Laurey, the young lovers Drake Smith and Kennedy Schuff are cast as the comedy duo of Will Parker and Ado Annie Carnes. Other featured players are Cheyanne Forbes, Chris Waterman and Drake Fox. Directors are Lynn and Vicki Jacobsen. The show begins at 7:30 p.m. each evening and tickets are available at the door.
The production is being adjudicated as part of the Iowa High School Musical Theater Awards, a program of Des Moines Performing Arts which celebrates the extraordinary achievements of Iowa students in high school musical theater.
