Darrell J. Wolfe, Jr., 93, of Middletown, died Wednesday, April 1, 2015, at the New London Nursing and Rehab Center.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m,. Saturday at Elliott Chapel, New London with Patriot Lodge #605 of Burlington presenting a public Masonic service. Darrell J. Wolfe, Jr., 93, of Middletown, died Wednesday, April 1, 2015, at the New London Nursing and Rehab Center.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m,. Saturday at Elliott Chapel, New London with Patriot Lodge #605 of Burlington presenting a public Masonic service. Military rites will be conducted by the Henry County Honor Guard. According to his wishes, his body has been cremated and inurnment will be held at a later date. A memorial has been established for Great River Hospice, West Burlington.
Wolfe was born Sept. 5, 1921, in Van Buren County to Darrell and Dorothy Folker Wolfe, Sr. On April 21, 1941, in Kahoka, Mo., he married Joan Schulz. She preceded him in death.
Darrell was a graduate of Farmington High School and attended Princeton for schooling during the war, where he met Albert Einstein. Wolfe served with the 10th Armored Division, attached to Gen. Patton?s 3rd Army in the European Campaign during World War II as a radio operator in a half trak. He was awarded a certificate of appreciation from the French Consul for aiding in the Liberation of France.
Wolfe worked for Mason Hanger at the IAAP with 35 years of service, retiring as department manager. He enjoyed golfing, mowing his yard with his John Deere tractor and coffee with his buddies in New London and Danville.
Wolfe is survived by two sons, Tom (Diana) Wolfe, of Burlington; Richard Wolfe, of Pensacola, Fla.; two daughters, Penney (Ron) Wheeler, of Middletown; and Cathy Kerr, of Middletown; eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one sister, Patricia (Darrell) Pickard, of Ft. Madison; two brothers, Allen (Maryann) Wolfe, of Ft. Madison; and Mickey Wolfe, of Oregon.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Joan; one son, Terry Wolfe; three grandchildren; one sister, Darlene Rashid; and three brothers, Thomas; Jacob; and Gary.
