The Washington Chapter of DAR met at 1:30 p.m., Monday, April 6, at Halcyon House in Washington. Nine members, two pending members and one guest attended the meeting.

The Washington Chapter of DAR met at 1:30 p.m., Monday, April 6, at Halcyon House in Washington. Nine members, two pending members and one guest attended the meeting.
In the absence of Regent Julie Mangold, Vice Regent Nancy Anderson opened the meeting with the Ritual and Pledge of Allegiance.
National Defense chair Lois Greiner gave interesting information about the origins of the Purple Heart Medal and the requirements for receiving the medal. The cabin committee has accepted a bid to make improvements to the cabin wiring and install a security system. This work will be completed by July 1. Work is also progressing on the foundation of the cabin and leveling of the second floor. Marj Lins has presented a grant application to the Washington County Historic Preservation Committee for funds to continue work on repairing and updating the cabin. Registrar Julie Beenblossom reported membership papers for Ellen Krueger and Jeri Kline have been completed and sent in. Evie Heald was introduced as a pending member. Julie Mangold will purchase banners to bring awareness to Flag Day. Denise Preston, Rosemary Harris and Patricia Renaund volunteered for the program committee. Denise Preston presented the program titled ?The Hardships of a Covered Wagon Journey.?
The next meeting will be at 1:30 p.m., May 4, at the Halcyon House. The new officers will be installed, and Nancy Anderson will present a program in memoriam of the chapter?s deceased members. The Washington Chapter of DAR welcomes new members. Anyone interested should contact Julie Mangold at 319-698-2033, or any of the other members.
