By Billie Jo Rose
Jan. 21, 2019 11:19 am
The Crawfordsville Lions Club met Monday, Jan. 14, 2019 at 6:30 p.m. at the Crawfordsville Community Room with 14 members present.
In the absence of Lion President Adam Mitchell, First Vice President Larry Swailes took the gavel and called the meeting to order, leading the Pledge of Allegiance. Lion Larry Fletcher gave the opening prayer. The minutes of the Nov. 26, 2018, meeting were approved as read. Lion Treasurer Randy Finke gave his report.
Thank-you notes were read from the Christmas drawing winners Carol and Doug Steele and Lance and Karen Brisky. A thank-you was also read from the Steve Wilson family for the club's donation to his granddaughter's college fund. Lion Loree Stogdill reported that she and Mike Massey had purchased Christmas gifts for a family through the school. It was noted that the club's Christmas party at the Thirsty Camel on Dec. 7 was well attended. Pancake supper tickets and club membership cards were distributed.
Old Business: The Pancake Supper is Feb. 16 and will be counted as the second meeting of the month. Lion Steve Williams will pick up the meat-sausage patties will be slighter smaller this year. It was suggested that members wait until the next meeting to talk about recruiting help for the supper, especially the cleanup. Proceeds from the supper will go to supporting local projects and their scholarship fund. Lion Loree will be in charge of the advertising.
Christmas Drawing: It was noted that the club was two bags short of Santa candy and next year more will be needed. It was also noted that there are people who do not live in the community who should be receiving cards for the drawing. This will be dealt with next year. It was noted that 43 people received a second gift and that a loud speaker system would be very helpful.
New UCW books for 2019 with a green cover are available in a box on the table in the Narthex for all women of the church, as they provide information on all women's meetings, work committees, proposed guidelines for giving and much more.
All committee reports and the treasurer's report are posted on the bulletin board.
It was also noted that the Jan. 28 meeting will be a dinner meeting at 6:30 p.m. with Zoey Dennler as the speaker. Lion Secretary Nancy will send a sympathy card to the Hochstetler family following the death of Joey's father, Harlan Hochstetler. A donation will be send to the new Clear Creek Lions Club in Tiffin.
Delicious refreshments were provided by Mindy Wilson and Joel Green.
The meeting adjourned and was followed by a brief round of trivia.
