Diabetes Support Group; Jefferson County Retired School Personnel

DIABETES SUPPORT GROUP

A new, free diabetes education and support group will meet at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Hy-Vee Club Room at the Fairfield Hy-Vee Food and Drug Store.

Bob Byrne will tell his story about living with diabetes, and Dee Sandquist, dietitian, will discuss strategies for controlling diabetes during the holidays.

JEFFERSON COUNTY RETIRED SCHOOL PERSONNEL

The Fairfield High Vocal Jazz Group, under the direction of Zach Reiter, provided the entertainment for the Jefferson County Retired School Personnel luncheon meeting Wednesday at SunnyBrook Living Care Center.

The audience was impressed by the students? singing, most of which was a cappella, according to Michele Weber, a retired teacher.

The meeting of the Retired School Personnel conducted by co-presidents Lois and Don Kramer followed the luncheon and entertainment and included tips from Becky Peters, chairwoman of the Health Care Committee, on ways to avoid weight gain over the holiday season. Among the recommendations were to drink plenty of water and stick to golfball-sized servings of food items at parties; presumably, this does not mean a golfball-sized serving each of 10 different types of fudge, added Weber.
