The Fairfield Beautification Commission is proud to present the Rose Award for Excellence in Landscaping to Diana and Glen Watt of 800 South 3rd Street in Fairfield.
Diana and Glen have called their home on South 3rd Street their own since 1989, and it was there that Diana’s passion for gardening first took root. Over the years, she has cultivated a garden that not only reflects her deep love for plants but also showcases her remarkable talent for landscape design.
Her naturalistic style features an artful blend of wildflowers framed by rock borders, winding limestone pathways, and thoughtfully layered plantings—from ground covers to tall perennials, shrubs, and trees. The interplay of bold foliage and delicate blossoms, complemented by structural elements like ornamental grasses and hedges, ensures visual interest throughout the seasons.
Pathways and peaceful seating areas invite visitors to slow down and explore the garden’s many charming surprises: hidden birdbaths, a small vegetable garden, vibrant planter pots, sculpted hydrangeas, and a stunning, handcrafted pergola built by Glen himself.
But Diana’s creativity doesn’t stop in the garden. She takes many of the beautiful flowers she grows and transforms them into handmade greeting cards, which she sells locally at Petal Floral, Everybody’s, Thymely Solutions, and the Fairfield Farmers Market. Using a flower-pressing technique, she carefully arranges blossoms into visually striking designs and reproduces them using a copy machine. Diana says she has always had a knack for arranging things into beautiful compositions—a skill that shines through in each of her unique cards.
Together, Diana and Glen have created more than just a beautiful landscape—they’ve cultivated a serene oasis that offers both a sanctuary for wildlife and a peaceful retreat for the soul. Congratulations to Diana and Glen for this well-deserved recognition!
