Discussion on memory loss, Alzheimer?s to be hosted by local funeral home Feb. 23

HCI Care Services is partnering with Kimzey Funeral Home to host a free community presentation for family caregivers on memory loss.

Michelle Kelman, senior program and event coordinator with The Alzheimer?s Association, will present, ?The Basics: Memory Loss, dementia and Alzheimer?s Disease? on Tuesday, Feb. 23, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. The event will be held in the Community Room at Kimzey Funeral Home, located at 213 North Main Street, in Mt. Pleasant. Refreshments and a free caregiver toolkit will be provided for those who register by calling 319-385-4472.

Kelman will discuss how Alzheimer?s affects the brain, different types of dementia, causes and risk factors as well as diagnosis, treatment options, and an overview of Alzheimer?s research.

Family Caregiver College is a series of free community events that feature guest speakers who offer expertise on a variety of topics to help those caring for a loved one.
