Activities kick off Friday at 6:30 p.m. with a dinner and Douds High School reunion at the Douds Elementary Center. The public is welcome. For reservations, contact Marvin Philips.
Festivities continue Saturday morning with a pancake and sausage breakfast from 7:30-10 a.m. at the Douds Community Center.
A parade, with the theme ?The Great Outdoors,? forms at the park on the Leando side and begins at 10:30 a.m. The Douds High School Class of 1961 have been designated grand marshals. For parade information, contact Bob Waugh of the Douds American Legion Post.
Pastor Ann Donat is organizing a baking contest. Entries should be brought to the community center prior to judging at 11 a.m. For the noon meal, donated baked goods also are needed.
Following the parade, activities are centered at Yates Memorial Park where registration for the sanctioned pedal pull by Hawkeye Pedal Pull opens at 11 a.m. The pull begins at 11:30 a.m.
Lunch is served on the grounds starting at 11:30 a.m. followed by a baked goods auction at 12:30 p.m., old-fashioned children?s games at 1 p.m. and a cake walk for all ages at 2 p.m.
The band Bluegrass Addiction is tapped to perform at 3 p.m. Saturday at Yates Memorial Park. The band, which has been entertaining across the Midwest since 1991, plays everything from hard-driving, traditional bluegrass songs to contemporary, strong ballads. The band has released six recording projects since 1999 with the current band configuration.
The bluegrass band consists of four musical veterans with many hours of stage performances. Lori King joined the group in 1999 and plays bass fiddle, sings lead and harmony vocals, and is manager and booking agent for the band. Joe King is a founding member of Bluegrass Addiction. Joe?s guitar playing influences were that of Tony Rice and Vince Gill. He also plays mandolin, banjo and bass, and he even attempts to play a tune or two on the fiddle. Also a founding member, Gary Fisher plays mandolin, sings lead and tenor harmony, and sometimes even sings bass. Fisher also plays guitar, bass and banjo, and has recently been testing his patience at playing fiddle. Bill Cross is the newest member of the band. Cross plays banjo, guitar, bass, dobro and mandolin, and he sings baritone and lead vocals with the band.
During the concert, ice cream treats will be available.
Field day events conclude on Sunday with a community worship service at 10 a.m. held at the historic Mount Moriah Country Church, located two miles north of Douds, followed by a noon potluck dinner at Yates Memorial Park.
Douds Field Day is organized by the Douds Community Club as a fundraiser for community betterment projects. Officers are Pastor Phil Campbell, president; Marvin Philips, vice-president; Jim Pedrick, treasurer; and Lisa Plowman, secretary. Directors are Milt Robertson, Pastor Donat and Brad Debner.
