DOUDS ? Entertainment for the 63rd Annual Douds Field Day has been announced.
The band Bluegrass Blondies will perform at 3 p.m. June 23 at Yates Memorial Park.
The Bluegrass Blondies, the Scott Amos family of Ottumwa, are talented musicians and vocalists providing audiences across the Midwest delightful entertainment experiences in a wholesome, family-oriented style. Performing traditional and contemporary bluegrass, country, old-time, traditional/southern/contemporary gospel, patriotic, a cappella, comedy and good ole? down home fun ? the Bluegrass Blondies provide entertainment everyone can enjoy.
Douds Field Day activities kick off at 6:30 p.m. June 22 with a dinner and Douds High School reunion at the Douds Elementary Center. The public is welcome. For reservations, contact Marvin Philips.
Activities continue June 23, with the pancake and sausage breakfast from 7:30-10 a.m. at the Douds Community Center.
The parade, featuring the theme, ?The Wild, Wild West,? forms at the park on the Leando side and steps off at 10:30 a.m. The best decorated float will receive a $25 cash prize. The Douds High School Class of 1962 will be grand marshals. For parade information, contact Bob Waugh.
The Rev. Ann Donat is organizing the baking contest. Entries should be brought to the Community Center prior to judging at 11 a.m. There is a $5 entry fee. Donated baked goods also are needed for the noon meal.
Following the parade, activities are centered at Yates Memorial Park, where registration for the sanctioned pedal-tractor pull by Hawkeye Pedal Pull opens at 11 a.m., and the pull begins at 11:30 a.m.
Lunch is served on the grounds starting at 11:30 a.m., followed by kids? old -fashioned games at 1 p.m. and a cake walk for all ages at 2 p.m.
The Bluegrass Blondies will be playing two 45-minute sets starting at 3 p.m. During the band?s break, baked goods will be auctioned. Root beer floats and ice cream treats will be available during the concert.
Field Day events resume June 24, with coffee and breakfast sweets served at 9 a.m. prior to the community worship service at 10 a.m. at the historic Mount Moriah Country Church 2 miles north of Douds.
Douds Field Day is organized by the Douds Community Club as a fundraiser for community betterment projects. Officers are the Rev. Phil Campbell, president; Marvin Philips, vice president; Jim Pedrick, treasurer and Lisa Plowman, secretary. Directors are the Rev. Ann Donat and Brad Debner.
