DOWNEY
Lydia Downey, granddaughter of Richard and Charlotte Downey of Richland, was promoted to first lieutenant in the U.S. Army at a ceremony held in the park bandstand in Albia.
Downey?s parents, U.S. Army Col. (Retired) Chris R. and Valerie Downey, pinned the insignia on her uniform. The Downeys have lived in Albia since Col. Downey retired from active duty in December 2010.
1st Lt. Downey is an Army nurse stationed at the Landstuhl military hospital in Germany. She was home on leave when the ceremony was held.
The Downeys also have two sons, Richard and James, serving in the U.S. Army, and a third son, Noah, who graduated from high school this spring and planned to enlist in the Army.
