On April 26, 2014, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the United States Drug Enforcement Agency will coordinate a collaborative effort with state and local law enforcement agencies focused on removing potentially dangerous controlled substances from the nation?s medicine cabinets. This national take-back day will provide a unified opportunity for the public to surrender expired, unwanted, or unused pharmaceutical controlled substances and other medications to law enforcement officers for destruction. This one-day effort will bring national focus to the issue of pharmaceutical controlled substance abuse. The program provides an opportunity for law enforcement, prevention, treatment and the business communities to collaborate and establish a safe collection site for all Americans, regardless of where they reside.
In coordination with this effort, the Iowa Wesleyan Sophomore Nursing Students as well as the Safe Coalition is scheduling a take-back in area communities. The date is April 26, at the United Presbyterian Church from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Washington, and the pharmacy on Eighth Street in Wellman from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
