Eco Barn to host farm work day, Sierra Club meeting
Aug. 12, 2021 3:43 pm
The Eco Barn north of Fairfield will host a couple of events in the near future.
The Eco Barn, located at 2143 185th St., will host a “Farm Laulima” work/fun day from 8:30 a.m. to noon Saturday, Aug. 14.
Organizer Bob Ferguson said he participated in Laulimas on the island of Maui, where volunteers come together to work on a farm, then enjoy a meal. He said the Eco Barn’s version will involve asking participants to bring something for a potluck lunch at noon. Drinks and snacks will be served in the morning.
“Bring your tools and we’ll get the grounds and gardens all spiffed up,” Ferguson said.
On Wednesday, Aug. 18, the Eco Barn will host a program courtesy of the Southeast Iowa Sierra Club’s Executive Committee discussing the group’s strategic conservation and community resilience plan. The event will last from 7:30-9 p.m.
The public is invited to join the Sierra Club for desserts, conversation and learning about volunteer opportunities. Masks are required for all indoor Sierra Club events. The event will also be held via Zoom. To learn more, email seiowasierraclub@gmail.com.
