Wintermeyer Retirement
Ed Wintermeyer retired from the U.S. Postal Service as a rural carrier on July 30, 2022 after working 21 years full time and 7 years subbing, all out of the Winfield offices. He would begin his day at Winfield sorting mail;newspapers, letters, magazines, packages. He stuffed mailboxes all the way to Crawfordsville. When there, he again sorted and delivered on his Crawfordsville route around Crawfordsville and on his way back to Winfield, ending there. He had around 350 mailboxes and drove around 86 miles. In the beginning it was a route number with a box number. Now it is a street and house number, even in the country. All packages are scanned when delivered and the scanner has GPS built in. Ed worked under five postmasters and drove many cars and many miles in his career and trained many subs.
Ed's grandfather, Allan Wintermeyer was also a rural carrier. His sister, Nancy Hill retired from the post office where she worked in various locations and ending her career as a city carrier in Mt. Pleasant.
His retirement plans are to spend more time with family, driving mules and covered wagons to the Clark County Mule Festival in Missouri. He also hatches peacock eggs and he will just relax and run his farm located southwest of Swedesburg.
His family includes, daughter, Elicia and grandson, Garrett, son, Will (Tyson) and granddaughters, Stevey and Kaiya and daughter, Kaitlyn and grandsons, Lawson and Isaac. Ed's wife, Kathy passed away in January of this year.
Enjoy your retirement Ed, you've earned it!

They took a ferry toured theVancouver Islandwhere they toured the Butchart Gardens. They spent the day sightseeing . On Monday, they rode the train overnite through the Rocky Mountains and their next scheduled stop was in Jasper, where they toured the National Park and Maligne Canyon. They went to the Icefields Parkway where it was very cold on the glacier. In Banff they toured the city and National Parks. They rode a gondola 8,000 feet up and this was done in eight minutes up and eight minutes back. They enjoyed a full day excursion on Lake Louis, Lake Maligne and Yoho and Banff National Parks. This was one of many National Parks they toured.
They report beautiful weather around 70 degrees and it was a great trip, but a lot of walking.
