Edith ?Edie? Murphy, 97, formerly of Mt. Pleasant, died Monday, Aug. 31, 2015, at LaVerna Village, in Savannah, Mo.
The family will greet friends beginning at 9 a.m., on Thursday, Sept. 3, 2015, at the Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel, 709 E. Mapleleaf Drive, in Mt. Pleasant. A funeral service will begin at 10 a.m. with Rev. Jim Hughes officiating. Interment will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery.

Murphy was born on Sept. 19, 1917, in Burlington, the daughter of Martin and Grace (Hartman) Peterson. She attended school in Burlington until 5th grade. The family moved to Cicero, Ill., and later Berwyn, Ill. In Cicero, she was adopted by her stepfather, Charles Anderson. She graduated from Cicero School System. On Nov. 28, 1938, she married Thomas Murphy. They later divorced.
She worked as a line worker and cook at the Iowa Army Ammunitions Plant, in Middletown. She later was employed at Metromail as a machine operator.
She enjoyed having coffee with her friends and baking.
She formerly attended the Lincoln Street Baptist Church.
Murphy is survived by one son, Tom (Linda) Murphy, of Burlington; one daughter, Pat Jacobs, of Savannah, Mo.; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and her sister, Peggy McCown, of Las Vegas, Nev.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Ginger McWilliams; her brothers, LaMonte Peterson, Charles Peterson, and Raymond Klein; and sisters, Ruth Jensen and Betty Brenneke.
