Edward Peterson to preach at Old Threshers

The Rev. Dr. Edward R. Peterson has accepted an invitation to preach at the ecumenical worship service in the Family Tent at 10:00 Sunday morning during the Old Threshers Reunion. His message is titled “Celebrating the Good Old Days.”

Dr Peterson was born in northwest Iowa and grew up on a farm in southeast South Dakota. He earned an MDiv from Northern Baptist Theological Seminary and a PhD in Religion from the University of Iowa. He has served United Methodist church congregations in Iowa since 1973, including eight years as senior pastor of the First United Methodist Church in Mt Pleasant from 1999-2007. He first retired in 2011. That retirement lasted ten days, before he served at Riverside for 11 years. He retired again July 1 and so far this retirement has lasted 2 months.

Peterson and his wife, Mary, are the parents of two and grandparents to four. They make their home in the greater Iowa City area.

The Family Tent hosts a variety of entertainment during the annual reunion. It is the location for the Roman Catholic Mass at 9:00, then the Sweet Sixteen Crowning at 11:00 Sunday morning. All are welcome to attend the worship at 10:00 Sunday morning.
