Eighth annual spring preview cattle show held
Washington County 4-H County Council sponsored their 8th annual Washington County Spring Preview Cattle Show on Saturday, April 16. The show was an Iowa Junior Beef Breeds Association sanctioned show held at the Washington County Fairgrounds. One hundred and five youth from Washington County and across the state participated.

Washington County 4-H County Council sponsored their 8th annual Washington County Spring Preview Cattle Show on Saturday, April 16. The show was an Iowa Junior Beef Breeds Association sanctioned show held at the Washington County Fairgrounds. One hundred and five youth from Washington County and across the state participated.
Supreme Champion breeding heifer went to Maggie Anderlik from Dayton with a Polled Hereford. $250 prize money was sponsored by Kalona Tire- Ronnie Hershberger. Reserve champion breeding heifer went to Wyatt Walden of New London with a Simmental heifer. $150 prize money was sponsored by Eichelberger Farms. In the market beef division, Supreme Champion went to Wyatt Walden of New London with a crossbred steer. The $250 prize money was sponsored by Kalona Tire- Ronnie Hershberger. Reserve champion market beef went to Dalton Shanks of Colfax with a crossbred steer. The $150 prize money was sponsored by Walker Livestock.
Twenty-seven Washington County exhibitors participated in the show. Several of them earned top honors. In the breeding division: Keiffer Sexton of Ainsworth earned champion Chianina. Iris Peterson of Washington earned champion Saler. Brynn Younge of Wellman earned champion Foundation Simmental. Leah Evans earned champion commercial heifer. In the market division Cody Crawford of Wayland earned champion angus steer. Jacob Eichelberger of Crawfordsville earned Reserve Champion Showman in the 13-and-under class.
The cattle show was planned by the Washington County 4-H County Council with the help of the 4-H Youth Committee. Youth volunteers assisted with setup, check-in, ring help, food booth and cleanup. Proceeds from the event go towards 4-H and fairground improvement projects. The event was made possible by the generous support of local businesses and families.
