First Lutheran honoring ELCA anniversary

First Lutheran Church will be honoring the 25th anniversary of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America with a special service and service project Sunday.

A worship service will be held at 9 a.m. Sunday at Jefferson County Park.

Following worship, a service project and a potluck meal are planned at the park.

Guest speaker at Foursquare

Jeanne Kuckelman, founder and director of Inside Out Christian Counseling, will be the guest speaker at 10 a.m. Sunday at Fairfield Foursquare Church.

Kuckelman is a licensed Christian clinical counselor and licensed minister with the International Church of the Foursquare Gospel. She has worked in the mental health field for more than 25 years.

Rosary, healing service planned

A rosary and healing service will be held Wednesday at Spiritus Christi Independent Catholic Church.

A Rosaries of Divine Union will be at 6:15 p.m. and a healing service will be at 7:30 p.m.

Rosaries of Divine Union is a way to explore the contemplative dimension of prayer through the rosary.

The healing service is a service of prayer, communion and the laying on of hands in the age-old manner.

Everyone is welcome.

SALT potluck set

The SALT group will have a potluck lunch at noon Thursday in fellowship hall of First Baptist Church.

Those attending should bring one food dish to share and their own table service.

Gospel quartet to perform Sept. 14

Glory Road gospel quartet will be in concert at 7 p.m. Sept. 14 at First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).

The community is invited. A reception is planned after the concert in the church dining room. A freewill offering will be collected.

Glory Road also will be singing at the First Presbyterian Church at 10:45 a.m. Sept. 15.

Glory Road, from Council Bluffs, was formed in 1998 when the members discovered they had a common interest in the southern gospel-style of music and a desire to develop a music ministry.

Fairfield native Rand Brookhart, son of Marge Brookhart and the late Gordon Brookhart, is a member of the quartet.

The group presents concerts and special music for churches, conventions, revivals and charitable events in Iowa, Nebraska, Missouri, Kansas, Illinois and Minnesota. They have opened concerts for nationally recognized groups, including The Melody Masters Quartet and The Blackwoods.

?Back to Church Sunday? Sept. 15

First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) will be joining 20,000 other churches during National Back to Church Sunday Sept. 15 in inviting America back to church.

The evangelism and worship committees of First Christian Church invite all members and friends to attend the 10:45 a.m. Sept. 15 worship service, followed by fellowship in the dining room, with a potluck lunch.

The committees will provide meat, drink and table service.

About 20,000 churches in the nation will participate in Back to Church Sunday. It is the single largest annual community outreach in the nation, sharing the simple message and mission of inviting everyone in America back to church. In its fifth year, the campaign empowers churches and their members with the tools they need to welcome their neighbors, friends and loved ones back to church, while providing the unchurched an easy way to find a welcoming church in their community. Churches that participated in the past have reported an average 38 percent increase in attendance.

Packets available for CROP Walk

The Fairfield area CROP Walk will be at 2 p.m. Oct. 6 in Central Park.

Packets for walkers can be picked up between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. Monday through Friday at First Lutheran Church. To make other arrangements to receive a packet, call 472-4184.

Last year, 77 walkers raised about $3,300, with 25 percent staying locally to assist in the fight against hunger.

The goal for this year is to have 100 walkers and raise $4,500.

The first 100 walkers to turn in a donation sheet the day of the walk will receive a CROP Walk T-shirt.
