Elizabeth M. ?Betty? Smith

Elizabeth M. ?Betty? Smith, 88, of Fairfield, and formerly of Douds and Keosauqua, died on Saturday, Nov. 19, 2016, at Jefferson County Health Center, in Fairfield.

In accordance with her wishes, her body has been cremated. A joint graveside service with her daughter, Peggy Ross, will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Monday, Nov. 28, 2016, at Zion Lutheran Cemetery, east of Douds, with Rev. Phil Ross officiating.

Memorials to Zion Bible Church may be left at the cemetery or mailed to the family at 4505 Belmont Road, Downers Grove, Illinois 60515. Pedrick Funeral Home, in Keosauqua, is handling the arrangements.

Smith was born on July 7, 1928, in Fairfield, the daughter of Clinton and Jessie B. Purdy Gray. She attended Fairfield Schools. She married Murl A. Smith.

She drove a school bus for Douds Elementary School, and worked as a bookkeeper for her husband.

She attended Zion Bible Church.

She enjoyed cooking, sewing and needlepointing.

Smith is survived by a daughter, Beverly (Joe) Schafer, of Downers Grove, Ill.; and a granddaughter.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Murl; her daughter, Peggy; and a grandson.
