The Greater Jefferson County Foundation wishes to remind residents that there is still time to make end-of-year donations to the charity of their choice. There are so many local nonprofits in Fairfield and Jefferson County that would benefit from a gift.
Cash donations are always appreciated. The other opportunity is to gift an asset of appreciated stock or mutual fund. Your direct expense is the cost basis of that asset and your charitable donation is the current market value of that asset. The other benefit is that you do not have to pay capital gains on the appreciated asset when it is donated directly to a qualified non-profit organization. Please check with your financial advisor or investment professional for the details.
This would also be a great time to consider funding a scholarship at Fairfield High School or The Maharishi School. You would be able to honor a family member that had a deep interest in a certain discipline. Recognizing a teacher that had an impact on your life, with their name on a scholarship, would be a gift of a lifetime. Many of the scholarships provided by the Greater Jefferson County Foundation that began with a minimum donation of $10,000.00 have grown in value over the years, as well as benefiting a graduating high school senior with the income from the donation as the scholarship as they prepare to enter college in 2021.
