EPA’s Septic Smart Week starts Monday
Sep. 19, 2021 10:03 am
One in five U.S. homes has septic systems. Yours may be one of them. If your septic system is not properly maintained, you may be risking your family’s health, hurting the environment, and flushing thousands of dollars down the drain.
The Environmental Protection Agency’s SepticSmart Initiative is a nation-wide public education effort with resources for homeowners, local organizations, and government leaders. It is part of Septic Smart Week, Sept. 20-24.
Learn how septic systems work and get simple, everyday tips on how to properly maintain them by visiting www.epa.gov/septic or contact Jefferson County Environmental Health director Dan Miller at 641-472-2561, jeffcoeh@gmail.com
