The National Society for the Preservation of Tent, Folk, and Repertoire Theatre is inviting area high school and college students to apply for a $250 scholarship by submitting an essay to the organization's 50th anniversary essay contest. The essay must be three to seven pages and discuss the importance of any of the performing arts in southeast Iowa, an aspect of local history (preferably 1850-1950), or the value of historic preservation to the community. Essays may but are not required to include documented research about regional performers, events, or historic preservation. Applicants should send their essays to theatremuseum@yahoo.com along with their email, name, school, and phone number by March 8. Along with receiving the $250 scholarship, the winner will be expected to present their essay at the 50th Anniversary Conference of The National Society for the Preservation of Tent, Folk, and Repertoire Theatre on April 13 in Mt. Pleasant.
