Car owners and river enthusiasts can show off their wheels at the Top of the Hill area at Oakland Mills County Park on April 14 at 2 p.m., then everyone stay for a showing of the film 'River to River: Iowa's Forgotten Highway 6.” This 53-minute film rolls across Iowa from one river to the other on Highway 6. 'What do Bonnie and Clyde, Jesse James, Nancy Drew and Jack Kerouac have in common? U.S. Route 6 in Iowa takes two-lane motorists from Davenport on the Mississippi to Council Bluffs on the Missouri. Built in one day by 10,000 farmers and businesses across the state, Iowa's Route 6 is part of the second longest transcontinental highway in America…. (this film) guides viewers on a nostalgic classic car journey through yesterday's soda shops, filling stations, general stores, drive-ins, and roadside attractions. Experience the sights and sounds, the people and the places that the four-lanes have forgotten ... before they are gone forever.”
After the film in the Oakland Mills Nature Center classroom, there will be a question-and-answer session with the filmmakers, Kelly and Tammy Rundle. FREE.
Note: Car owners are asked to preregister for a parking spot at www.mycountyparks.com, Henry County events.
