March is National Nutrition Month. National Nutrition Month is sponsored by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and is an annual celebration that encourages healthy eating habits. This year’s theme is Celebrate a World of Flavors. The library can help you celebrate flavors from cultures all around the world with our vast selection of cookbooks for people of all skill levels.
The children’s section of the library hosts recipes that are appropriate for getting the whole family involved in the kitchen. Many of the cookbooks appeal to specific interests such as The Pirate Cookbook, The Official DC Super Hero Cookbook, American Girl Baking, and everything in between. If you would like to stick to this year’s theme of celebrating cultures around the world for National Nutrition Month, we also have titles for you such as The Multicultural Cookbook for Students or Holiday Cooking Around the World.
For our adult bakers out there, we also have selections for you. Our adult cookbook collection on the second floor has a massive selection of books that suit all interests, dietary restrictions, and skill levels. We have cookbooks with recipes from all around the world: Korea, Russia, Africa, and Ireland, just to name a few regions. Although there are other ways to access recipes, there is something special about paging through a cookbook and discovering the origins of a recipe and the cultural significance that different dishes have.
Whether you cook and bake for leisure or you are new in the kitchen, take this month to expand your food repertoire. Food is good for the soul, they say, probably because the experience is meant to be shared. Teach a child, invite a friend, or bake and share with your neighbors; that is the best way to Celebrate the World of Flavors.
