Ellie and Sophie Bell of the Green Acres 4-H Club presented at the November Washington County Fair Board meeting, requesting funds to complete the rabbit barn improvement project. Bell Sisters Rabbitry had recently applied for and received a $2,000 grant from Farm Credit Services of America that made many improvements possible but to complete the entire rabbit barn project, they needed more funds. Volunteer rabbit superintendent David Moeller was also present to share the history of the department?s cages and barn setup.
The Washington County Fair Board voted unanimously to contribute $2,100 to complete the project. For the 2017 Washington County Fair, the rabbit barn will have six new fans to improve overall air movement and 232 new cages to improve the overall safety and management of the rabbits during fair.
