The Fairfield Art Association announces 16 legs for the 16th annual summer art installation in downtown Fairfield, which is located in the garden nodes around the square and along Main Street. The theme celebrates our community’s strengths in all the arts, education, sports, gardens, nature, habitats, history, and more. These attributes have provided inspiration as a place to grow and nurture our community.
The ‘Legs’ arrived downtown for the June 6 Art Walk and will remain in place through the summer, until September 5, when they will be sold by silent auction, with proceeds split between the FAA and the artist. In August, there will be a ‘Vote for your Favorite Leg.’
Mannequin legs were purchased by the FAA, and ‘farmed out’ to the following 23 artists to be creative in whatever way they wanted: FHS Art Student Lola Hatchette, Jan & Bob Bork, Harriet Burbeck, Elaine Duncan’s class of Vicky Gautherat & Willy Kopple, Jasmin Bode & young artist Leni Bolser, Shelly Urban, Jenny Sammons, Terri & Chuck Drobny, Ruthee Scoter, Nancy Horras, Mike Pech, Suzan Kessel, and Cindy’s Art Beat artists Dawn McKay, Irene Murphy, Cris Soth, Danielle Schier, Dextrina Neal and Cindy Ballou.
“The first FAA art installation consisted of Mannequin Torsos in 2009, titled ‘My Fairfield Ladies,’ inspired by a dressmaker’s exhibit I saw in downtown Chicago. It was amazing, and I thought, We can do that in Fairfield! We thought we would bring back a mannequin leg this year.”
