Fairfield Cultural Alliance presents mini-grants
Nov. 11, 2021 2:08 pm
The Fairfield Cultural Alliance was formed in 2005 to create and then administer the state certified Cultural & Entertainment District in Fairfield.
“The town’s Cultural District has been designated around the square and includes many of the historic buildings, shops, restaurants, and entertainment venues, that we in Jefferson County have loved for decades,” said Denyce Rusch of the FCA.
In July of 2018, Fairfield was re-designated as an Iowa Cultural & Entertainment District by the Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs for another 10 years. The Fairfield Cultural Alliance is a volunteer organization that seeks to support Arts, History and Culture through networking opportunities, mini-grants, and connections with the Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs.
On the evening of Wednesday, Sept. 29 in the downtown square Gazebo, the FCA gave out nine mini-grants to individuals and organizations with worthy projects. These included:
The Carnegie Museum Foundation to help add a sidewalk for easier viewing of the Freedom Rock on the Courthouse square.
Icon Gallery for a high resolution camera to document their growing collections and record videos.
The Fairfield Farmers' Market to pay musicians playing at the Saturday markets.
AG Ceramics (sponsor: Fairfield Art Association) for Alejandra Giron, potter to buy more equipment in order to offer lessons.
Live on the Square to cover marketing costs of the Summer Concert Series in the downtown Central Park.
The Fairfield Arts & Convention Center to create a hip hop dance workshop in October.
The Fairfield Muse to pay costs of putting on monthly Open Mic entertainment.
The Thirsty Word (sponsor: Fairfield Public Library) for an indoor venue for the writers’ group this winter.
Plus a Fairfield First Foundation grant to Werner Elmker, volunteer “town photographer.”
For those interested in joining the FCA board, and carrying on this and other supportive ideas, please contact Denyce Rusch at fairfieldculturalalliance@gmail.com for more info.
