FAIRFIELD — The Fairfield Elks Lodge purchased and planted trees at Jefferson County's Prairie Ridge RV Campground on September 24. The tree planting is an annual Elks Community Investment project tor the community's parks and trail system.
The Southeast Iowa Flaming Marshmellows Special Olympics Team assisted in the tree planting. In addition to athletic competition, the athletes are provided with educational opportunities and experiences that build their confidence and self-esteem. The youngsters will receive community service credit as well.
The Elks would also like to recognize Oakwood Nursery and the Jefferson County Parks Department for their expertise and support in this annual project.
This project was made possible by a grant from the Elks National Foundation, the charitable arm of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks. Through its Community Investments Program, the Elks National Foundation awards grants to local Elks Lodges to help the Elks strengthen their communities. This year, the Elks National Foundation will award $6.5 million in grants to benefit Elks communities.
