Fairfield First Fridays celebrates Youth Art Month

The upcoming Fairfield First Fridays event theme is 'Youth Art: Celebrating Our Creative Future” and promotes the importance of art, quality art programs and art education for the youth in the community.
Join Fairfield First Fridays at the Fairfield Public Library from 6-9 p.m. Friday to enjoy the talent of area youth. Fairfield Community School District, including Fairfield High School, Fairfield Middle School, Pence and Washington elementary schools, along with Maharishi School and the Home School program will have artwork on display by local students. Visitors can see work in any medium including: drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture, pottery, photography and more.
In addition to the local youth art exhibit, Fairfield High School Individual Speakers Night will start at 7 p.m. in the library's meeting room.
Several businesses and galleries in and near the square will be open, with art on display, for Fairfield First Fridays:
' Americus Gallery showing Christopher Kufner's original oil paintings featuring Italian/French landscapes, figurative works and large-format photography on archival paper of the Tuscan countryside, oil paintings by Kim Kufner, watercolor and ink paintings by Genevra Bell, art glass vases by David Lotton, and diochroic glass jewelry by Pedro Lujano.
' Fairfield Art Association continues its 2019 annual Membership Show in the Fairfield Arts & Convention Center's Main Gallery. Fairfield artists participating include: Laura Weinberg, Elaine Duncan, Vicki Gautherat, Joyce Schindler, Kathryn Daller, John Preston, Jim DeArmon, Deb DeArmon, Care Connet, Susan Noll Thicke, Ann Bosold, Rolf Erickson, Kathleen, Mark Shafer, Cynthia Sterling, Susan Bomzer, Pam Lander, Ingrid Saterstrom, David Pattison and Suzan Bates Kessel. Those from out of town are: Albia, Annette Scieszinski; Washington Iowa, Kathleen Almelien and JoAnne Worley; Keosauqua, Debbie Finney; Fort Madison, Jessica Kirby and Carlene Atwater; Pulaski, Gin Lammert and Deb Baughman. The show will continue until the end of March and an awards and membership party will be March 24.
' Henderson's/Cindy's Art Beat will show its newly equipped classroom tables, chairs, and art materials.
' ICON Gallery's exhibition will be 'Anonymous Shiva Linga Paintings: The Hudson Collection,” a selection of Tantric images made by anonymous painters from Rajasthan, India. The exhibit was made possible by the donation of the Hudson Collection to ICON's permanent collection by Patricia Hudson, James Hudson, and Thomas Hudson. The 67 paintings will be on view through May 25.
' Revelations will have paintings by John Schirmer and Yantras by Peter Clemens.
