MOUNT PLEASANT ? Six golfers, one tiebreaker and a few putts here or there all added up to the Fairfield boys? golf team?s first loss of the season Thursday in Mount Pleasant.
Both the Trojans and host Panthers tied 162-all after the top four golfers on each team had been tallied. The dual was then decided by each team?s No. 5, and Mount Pleasant?s shot three strokes below Fairfield?s to hand the Panthers the win.
?Lesson learned tonight that all of us have to bring it to every meet, pull our own weight and that we had all better be ready every meet,? said Fairfield coach Mick Flattery.
Davis Lowenberg again led Fairfield, this time as meet medalist runner-up, with a score of 38. The Trojan senior shot 1-under-par on the par-5 holes and 1-over on the par-3s.
Fairfield?s Cody Kool shot a 39 and had two birdies to show for it, Landon Gamrath shot a 42 and Alex Shier finished with a 43. Matt Carr?s 46 and CJ Shipman?s 47 filled out the varsity lineup.
Joe Hietpas shot a varsity-worthy 39 and Dillon Shelby checked in with a 46 in JV play.
?As I told our guys, lots of golf left,? Flattery said. ?A lot of 18-hole matches coming up.?
Tuesday the Trojans (12-1) will be competing against Oskaloosa, Mount Pleasant, Washington, Norwalk and Meskawki Settlement at the Oskaloosa Invite.
