Fairfield Habitat to hold dedication Sunday for newest home
Jul. 26, 2021 5:52 pm
Greater Fairfield Area Habitat for Humanity will hold a dedication at its latest home construction project on Sunday, Aug. 1 at 2 p.m. The home is located at 804 N. 12th St. in Fairfield. The public is invited and will be able to tour the home following the dedication.
For the past several years, Habitat homes in Fairfield have been built with the help of the Fairfield Community School District. Due to COVID restrictions, that was not possible during the 2020-21 school year. The home to be dedicated this week was built through the Homes for Iowa program, a nonprofit organization. Their homes are built by Iowa Prison Industries near the Newton Correctional Facility. The house was delivered to Fairfield by truck.
Habitat for Humanity partners with families to provide simple and decent housing. All partner families are required to contribute “sweat equity” toward their home by working on such things as construction of the home, completing required trainings and volunteering at local nonprofits. Habitat homeowners make monthly payments on a no-interest mortgage, which in turn will go toward building more Habitat homes.
