Fairfield High School?s pops concert Thursday
The Fairfield High School music department will present a pops concert featuring 10th- through 12th-grade band and vocal students at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in the FHS Auditorium.
The Concert Band will begin the program with five band pieces.
First is ?The Avengers,? the theme song from the movie ?Avengers.?

The Fairfield High School music department will present a pops concert featuring 10th- through 12th-grade band and vocal students at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in the FHS Auditorium.
The Concert Band will begin the program with five band pieces.
First is ?The Avengers,? the theme song from the movie ?Avengers.?
Next is ?Pi?s Lullaby? from the movie ?Life of Pi,? featuring Clara Kelley on alto saxophone and Kara Greiner on flute.
Music from another movie is next with a medley of songs from ?Pirates of The Caribbean.?
In the next piece, a local bagpipe group, Drouthy Ducks, joins the band to perform music from the animated movie ?Brave.? Special guests are: Terry Cochran, Jon Grunwald, Jon Funkhouser, Greg Fransisco and John Morris on bagpipes. FHS junior Drew Grunwald will switch from trumpet to bagpipes to play with the Ducks. Also playing with the Ducks will be LeAnne Edgeton on organ and FHS students Coren Hucke on snare drum and Blair Grunwald on bass drum.
The Ducks will play ?Highland Cathedral? to enter the auditorium and ?Scotland, The Brave? to exit. The band will close its portion of the program with ?You Can?t Stop The Beat? from the musical ?Hairspray.? Band member Tracy Andermann and Chance Nicely will perform a swing dance routine to the piece.
The Jazz Band will then play two selections, both originally performed by Bruno Mars. First is ?Treasure,? with solos by Clara Kelley on alto sax and Drew Grunwald on trumpet. Next will be ?Locked Out Of Heaven,? with solos by Clara Kelley on alto sax and Seth Simmons on trumpet.
The vocal portion of the concert boasts many eclectic choices starting with the extra curricular ensembles.
The women?s ensemble, GRLZ, will perform ?Waka Waka,? originally performed by Shakira, with solos by Baylee Bowman and Shea Malloy. Bowman choreographed the song.
The men?s ensemble, GYZ, will perform ?Men in Tights,? an arrangement done by FHS alumnus Alex Rebling.
The newly formed Jazz Cubed will perform ?It Don?t Mean a Thing If It Ain?t Got That Swing,? with scat solos by Cara Johnson, Brendan Schmitt and Josie Neff. The Raw Notes will perform ?Don?t Be on the Outside,? with lead solo by Ashley Nelson and scat solos by Shea Malloy and Olivia Wallerich.
Jazz X will perform ?I Could Have Danced All Night,? arranged by Kerry Marsh, with Coren Hucke and Loreena Hucke on percussion and Claudia Sloat doing the solo.
The large Concert Choir will then take the stage performing ?If Everyone Cared? by Nickelback; ?Numb? by Linkin Park, with a spoken solo by Navin Singh; and ?Bohemian Rhapsody? by Queen, featuring soloists Elaine Brandt, Cara Johnson, Lindsey Repp, Monica Stoltz, Amber Manning, Ntando Dube, Alex Mellum, Harli Novak, Francesca Greco, Abby Melcher and Kalli Martin.
The Concert Choir will be joined by Vox to perform ?MLK? by U2, with the soloist to be announced.
To finish the concert, Vox will be performing its first a cappella show choir routine. The set includes: ?Skyfall? arranged by Kerry Marsh, with a solo by Claudia Sloat and choreographed by Baylee Bowman; the men performing ?Creep,? arranged and choreographed by FHS vocal teacher Zach Reiter, with a solo by Coren Hucke; ?Titanium? arranged by Deke Sharon specifically for Vox use with a featured trio of Lilly Miller, Olivia Wallerich and Arielle Smith and choreographed by Baylee Bowman and Kotie Webber; ?Fix You? arranged by Deke Sharon, with a solo by Halie Meador and choreographed by Claudia Sloat and Madison Soupiset; and ending with ?Virtual Insanity? arranged by Kerry Marsh, with solos by Shea Malloy, Jackie Ingle, Loreena Hucke, Jaclyn Finspach, Seth Simmons, Joanna Funkhouser, Paris Bickham, Taalia Larson and Jordan Whitney and choreographed by Zach Reiter.
Vox will be performing this set at the Fort Madison Show Choir Invitational Saturday.
