The Fairfield Public Library (FPL) has some exciting things planned for September —National Library Card Sign Up Month. A library card opens up a world of possibilities, from access to books — and the countless worlds, real and fantastical within their pages — to reference materials, internet access and databases, tech support, job resources, movie rentals and streaming services, storytimes, book clubs, free classes and workshops, equipment rentals, and so much more. Library access is empowering, providing constant opportunities to learn and connect.
Libraries are invaluable community resources for everyone, providing access to information, inspiration, and interconnection, with programs and events for all ages. Whether it’s researching a DIY project, finding your new favorite read, helping with homework, providing ideas for arts and crafts, or learning a new skill, it all starts with a library card.
Getting a library card is free, and involves a short application process. Patrons who get a library card, or renew their existing card at FPL in September, will receive coupons for free or discounted services provided by local businesses. Patrons can also replace their cards for free this month, and the library is offering new library card designs that Library Director Alecs Schmidt Mickunas says highlights FPL’s efforts to continue to develop in a sustainable fashion.
In addition there will be a number of special events in September, including at least one free film, a book art workshop — Mickunas says they are exploring new ways to recycle discarded books — and a three week long book sale. This particular sale features a large selection of non-fiction, including books dedicated to spirituality, self-help, and Eastern religion. Rare and collectible books will be available for sale.
Get or renew your library card this September and open the door to endless opportunities.
