The Fairfield Public Library plans to host a pair of programs next week:
Science Cafe
The library will host Science Café on Tuesday, Nov. 17 from 7-8 p.m. The topic is 'Psychological Insights into COVID-19 Vaccine Hesitancy” by Dr. Aaron Scherer, Assistant Professor of Internal Medicine. Vaccination will be the safest and quickest way to ending the current pandemic, yet only about half of American adults say they intend to get a COVID-19 vaccine once one becomes available. Dr. Aaron Scherer, a social psychologist and Assistant Professor of Internal Medicine at the University of Iowa, will discuss the factors that contribute to vaccine hesitancy in general, why we are unprepared to deal with COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy, and some of his research examining factors that influence public attitudes towards COVID-19 and a COVID-19 vaccine.
Sign up at https://bit.ly/NovemberSciCafe. Participants need to sign up prior to the event (end of day Monday) to get the Zoom link before the event. This event will not be recorded or available after the live event.
History Roundtable
History buffs, would you like to share your favorite books with like-minded readers? If so, join the Fairfield Public Library's History Roundtable Thursday, Nov. 19 from 1:30-3:30 pm.
The library's History Roundtable is a go-to place for connecting with others and exploring diverse perspectives, whether your interest is in local, national, or international history. Present whatever history book you are currently reading (even if you're in the middle of a book) and enjoy a spirited dialog. In a readers' circle, conversation inevitably covers the books presented plus other topics, so everyone walks away with inspiration for further reading. The library will limit group size to 12 to ensure that everyone can be heard in the time allotted.
Due to a significant increase in COVID-19 cases in Jefferson County, the library may host this event via Zoom. If COVID-19 data improves as Nov. 19 approaches, the library will also offer the option of in-person attendance in the library's meeting room with masks required. The meeting room can safely accommodate up to 12 in-person attendees with ample space for social distancing. Note that the room features its own separate air handler and an Austin Air Healthmate air purifier.
Register by calling the front desk at 641-472-6551 x2. A library employee will add your name to the list, and email a Zoom invitation if you choose to attend remotely.
