The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program is now offering opportunities for volunteers to work at the Fairfield Public Library.
Rebecca Johnson, director of the Fairfield library, recently signed the library on as an official RSVP service site.
This means that volunteers can serve there in lots of interesting ways throughout the year, explained Jefferson County RSVP coordinator John Miller.
Some of the volunteer opportunities include: working at the library?s January and June book sales; helping with a Valentine?s Day event for children of all ages Feb. 18; helping with a STEM program for fifth-graders Feb. 27; helping with a local history project, which includes transferring 150 boxes of inventory from one basement room to another and shelving them; facilitating the presentation of many topics of interest, including gardening, wellness, and household management during a National Library Week event April 9-15; making a library float and painting a large image for it for Kiwanis Kids? Day Parade in September; and bringing characters from children?s stories to life for a Halloween event, with a dozen large panels to tell the stories.
The volunteer opportunities sometimes involve an artistic element; others involve socializing with children. Some involve some lifting.
Volunteers can serve as often as several days a week or as little as once a month or less, whatever fits their schedules.
