Fairfield library to host program on Anne Frank museum
Aug. 23, 2021 3:37 pm
The Fairfield Public Library will host an event Sept. 3 about the Anne Frank Museum in Danville.
The free program will begin at 7:30 p.m. and is open to the public. Mask wearing and social distancing will be followed.
John Miller, coordinator for the Retired Senior Volunteer Program in Fairfield, manages a pen pal program between RSVP volunteers and two local Fairfield grade schools. Recently, he made a trip with several pen pal volunteers to see the Anne Frank Museum at the Danville library.
During World War II, the Frank family fled Nazi Germany in 1940 to settle in Amsterdam. By 1942, they needed to go into hiding there, remaining over two years. Then on Aug. 4, 1944, the Nazis, under a tip from a neighbor, discovered the Frank family in their hiding place and Sept. 3, forcibly removed them all to Auschwitz concentration camp in Poland, where they were separately confined, never to be reunited again. Of the four family members, all perished in the camps except for Otto, the father.
Miller has chosen that same date of Sept. 3 to show his photos of the museum as well as part of a recent interview of the Danville girl who corresponded with Margot Frank, Anne’s older sister. This showing will be in the Fairfield Public Library Community Room at the library’s front entrance.
Miller stated, “It won’t be as rich an experience as seeing the museum, but it may spark your interest to go visit it yourself.”
