Fairfield library’s Low Vision Support Group hosting special guest
Aug. 19, 2021 12:35 am
The Fairfield Public Library’s Low Vision Support Group will be joined by a special guest at its next meeting.
Susan Howard, an independent living rehabilitation teacher from the Iowa Department for the Blind, will visit the library at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 24.
Do you have trouble setting the oven dial, reading the newspaper and books, dialing the telephone, threading a needle, identifying your canned goods and medications? Stop by the library’s meeting room to learn skills and techniques that can be used to perform everyday tasks with low vision, such things as how to prepare meals, label household items, identify clothing and colors, and so much more.
Howard will also provide a general overview of services available from the Iowa Department for the Blind. She will also talk about services from the Library for the Blind and Print Disabled, demonstrate handheld magnifiers and other low vision aids and devices.
Who do you know who could benefit from these programs? Reach out and tell them, because they may not be able to read this announcement. Personal outreach can make the difference between isolation and inclusion.
If transportation is a barrier, notify library director Rebecca Johnson. A local donor has offered to fund the cost of public transit for Jefferson County residents who participate. Questions? Call the library’s front desk at 641-472-6551 ext. 2.
