On Monday, April 26, Fairfield Mayor Connie Boyer signed a proclamation declaring May 1-7 as National Travel and Tourism Week in Fairfield. This week is an opportunity to celebrate the many ways that travel and tourism benefits the Fairfield community.
"Travel and tourism is a vital part of our economy," said Mayor Boyer. "It supports hundreds of jobs in Fairfield, and it allows our city to welcome visitors from all around the world. I'm proud to sign this proclamation and help support this important industry."
Fairfield is home to a number of historic sites, including the Carnegie Historical Museum and Maasdam Barns, which have played host to thousands of visitors over the years. The city is also home to the Maharishi International University, which attracts people from all over the world. The robust arts & culture scene and numerous restaurants make Fairfield an attractive destination for individuals seeking an escape from urban life.
"We are thrilled that Mayor Boyer has recognized the importance of travel and tourism in our community," said Terry Baker, Executive Director of the Fairfield Convention & Visitors Bureau. "This week is a great opportunity to showcase all that Fairfield has to offer visitors from near and far."
National Travel and Tourism week is a nationwide event hosted by US Travel Association as a way to drive awareness to the vital role tourism plays in community economics. Baker noted, "Promoting Fairfield as a destination is more important than ever as a source of recovery for the local economy, small businesses, and local job creation."
The Fairfield Convention & Visitors Bureau will be promoting awareness of local tourism throughout the week to celebrate National Travel and Tourism Week. For more information, please visit www.visitfairfieldiowa.com.
