The first life chain started in 1987, when a small pro-life ministry in California called Please Let Me Live, built the first life chain. Life chain allows a person to stand publicly for an hour, holding a pro-life sign, and praying silently for an end to abortion.
40 Days for Life, which is 40 days of prayer, fasting and community outreach to end abortion, continues. First National Bank meeting room will be open from noon to 1 p.m. Monday through Oct. 12, for the community to come together for silent prayer.
