FAIRFIELD WOMEN?S CLUB GARDEN DEPARTMENT
Fairfield Women?s Club Garden Department will tour the Donnellson-Fort Madison area Oct. 4.
Members will depart at 8:30 a.m. from the McElhinny House. The tour will include Kathy?s Pumpkin Patch and the Appleberry Orchard, with lunch in Fort Madison.
Reservations are required by Thursday. Area women wishing to participate should call Donna Clark at 472-4248.

JEFFERSON COUNTY FARM BUREAU WOMEN
The Jefferson County Farm Bureau Women will meet at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at Pizza Ranch.
Phyllis Harris will be the hostess and have the program. The roll-call response will be the climate and population of Canada.
Following lunch and a meeting, the group will travel to Jefferson County Park, where Ron Meyers will give a tour of the trails.

AMERICAN LEGION AUXILIARY
Members of American Legion Auxiliary No. 0047 met recently at the VFW Hall in Fairfield.
Secretary Darlene Vorhies opened the meeting.
The charter was draped for Vi Pierce and Mildred Hill. Thank you?s were read from the family of Mary Ellen Hall for a donation to the Fairfield Public Library and from Jim Marshall who coordinated an Honor Tour Flight for veterans. Letters were read from auxiliary members formerly of Fairfield.
Jenna Nelson of Fairfield sent a CD of her experience at Girls State to the auxiliary. First District Girls State chairwoman Mary Andersen said plans are for Nelson to personally share her experience at the Nov. 21 meeting.
Vorhies reported $874 was donated during the May Poppy Days, and thank-you?s were sent to First National Bank, Hy-Vee, Iowa State Bank and Johnny?s Place for allowing tables to be set up in their business. Twenty-five dollars was sent to the veteran who made the poppies. The auxiliary will order 1,000 poppies for 2013.
Shirley Kitch reported 2013 dues for 12 members has been sent, and Rita VanDerSnick has been encouraging payment. Kitch also reported a portion of Poppy Day proceeds has been sent to department, a $25 Walmart gift card was sent to assist Girls State, a donation has been sent to assist with veterans needs at the Veterans Hospital in Iowa City, and the auxiliary?s share of the Memorial Day page in The Ledger was paid.
