Fairfield Community School District's hygiene closet has been in operation for one year, and through community support, has been able to support many families in that time by giving them access to hygienic items such as soap, toilet paper, deodorant and feminine products.
Lisa Greenig, math teacher at Fairfield Middle School and one of the leaders of this project, said, 'As we begin another year, it is time to stock the shelves.”
Greenig requests donations of toilet paper (most requested item), laundry soap, baby wipes, deodorant for men and women, shampoo and conditioner. The hygiene closet plans to expand to the high school after the new year. Donations are being accepted for that building, too.
How do students receive hygiene kits? Families sign up to receive hygiene products. The initial order is filled and placed in the student's locker. Refills are not done automatically on a regular basis. Refills are filled upon request. Parents or students may contact Mrs. Greenig with the list of items needed. Those items will then be placed in the student's locker.
