The Fairfield Public Library is collaborating with the Jefferson County Extension Service and Jefferson County Master Gardeners to host an outdoor program about winter cover crops. The first meeting will be Thursday, Oct. 8 from 2-3 p.m. To ensure social distancing, group size is limited to 12 people who register in advance by calling the library's front desk. The meeting will be held at the garden on the Jefferson County Fairgrounds.
This program is the first in a series of 'Garden Reads” events. Library staff will deliver a short Iowa State University publication to registrants' curbside vehicles to read in advance of the meeting. There will be a discussion about the benefits of cover crops, with an opportunity to experience it firsthand.
The library is partnering with Clinton Mercer, the Youth Outreach Educator and Master Gardener Coordinator for Iowa State University Extension in Jefferson County. He can be reached at 641-472-4166 or by email at cjmercer@iastate.edu.
Contact the library's front desk staff by calling 641-472-6551 ext. 2.
