Farm land leasing informational meeting set
With the continued increases occurring in farmland values, many people are asking ?What will cash rental rates look like for the 2013 crop year?? Setting cash rental rates in stable times is hard enough. Setting cash rental rates when there are volatile prices for corn, soybeans, and input cost, is even more difficult.

Setting cash rental rates in stable times is hard enough. Setting cash rental rates when there are volatile prices for corn, soybeans, and input cost, is even more difficult.
Iowa State University Extension and Outreach is offering a Farm Land Leasing workshop on at 1:30 p.m. Aug. 2 at the Jefferson County ISU Extension Office
Bob Wells, ISU Extension and Outreach farm management specialist, will be the presenter. According to Wells, ?The 2012 Extension Cash Rental Survey is out and will be discussed as well as the tenants profit potential.? Are cash rents keeping up with land values that have increased more than 80 percent in the past five years?
Wells will be discussing land values, leasing practices and lead an interactive discussion on methods to calculate cash rent. Wells stated, ?The most frequent stumbling block in setting a cash rental rate is determining the farm?s land quality.? Soil quality and ways to determine the farm?s productivity will be discussed.
The Farm Land Leasing workshop cost is $25 per person and includes the 2012 Farm Leasing Arrangement booklet and copies of the presentation. Registration cost can be paid at the door approximately 30 minutes before the workshop begins. For those that register at the meeting, a $5 late registration fee will be added.
To preregister, call the Jefferson County ISU Extension Office at 472-4166.
