Farmers? Market opens Saturday

The Fairfield Farmers? Market will begin its outdoor season Saturday in Howard Park.

The market will be open from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Saturdays and from 3-6 p.m. on Wednesdays.

Saturday, Jefferson County Green Band will be performing at 10 a.m., and the annual plant exchange begins promptly at 10 a.m. and only lasts about a half an hour.

May 12, Chandra Das and Global Cooling will be performing at 10 a.m. Another plant exchange will held from 10-10:30 a.m. A kids? craft event with GoJindy also will begin at 10 a.m., with a Mother?s Day theme. Children should bring toilet paper rolls to participate.

May 19 features the Beauty Shop?s May musical resident Doo Crowder at 10 a.m. The program put forth by the Beauty Shop has musicians residing in town, recording music and teaching classes.

Also on May 19, Fairfield Master Gardeners will be having a plant sale starting at 8 a.m.

Rounding out the month May 26, Keith DeBoer will play at 10 a.m., and the plant exchange will resume from 10-10:30 a.m. Lee Singh of the local Green Gourmet restaurant will give a cooking with greens demonstration and sampling starting at 11 a.m.

May harvests that can be found at the market include: kale, chard, mustard greens, cabbages, green onions, asian greens, turnips, radishes and arugula. Additionally, the market offers a variety of plants, starter plants, jellies and jams, baked goods, locally made jewelry and more.
