FFA participates in leadership conference
The Washington FFA attended the Southeast District Leadership Conference on March 1, 2014. Twelve members attend competing in six different events. The Washington FFA attended the Southeast District Leadership Conference on March 1, 2014. Twelve members attend competing in six different events. Holly Vittetoe, Brad Skubal, Colton Twinam, Matt Moeller, and Carter Hessletine competed in the Issues and Perception CDE event. In this event the FFA students had to address an issue in the Ag industry. The Washington FFA addressed pesticide safety in the food consumer industry. They received a silver emblem. Holly Vittetoe also competed in the secretary's book and received a bronze.
Addie Pacha, Libby Schnicker, and McKenna Brinning competed in the Chapter Program CDE event. Through the CDE event students share with the judges all of the activities the chapter through the year from the Program of Activities. The Program of Activities provides a road map of goals for the chapter throughout the year. These students received a gold emblem and were the alternate to state. McKenna Brinning also competed in the Reporters scrapbook CDE event and received a silver emblem.
Macy Marek competed in the Job Interview CDE event. The job interview CDE is a competitive event that tests the student's ability to perform effectively throughout the entire job application process. The participants prepare a resume, cover letter and complete an application. Macy received a gold emblem and is the alternate to state. Macy Marek also competed in the treasurer's book contest. She received a gold and will continue on to state.
Salton Khan competed in the extemporaneous speaking contest. The National FFA Extemporaneous Public Speaking CDE is designed to recognize outstanding FFA members for their ability to prepare and present a factual speech on a specific agricultural issue in a well-thought-out and logical manner. Members select one topic from a choice of three, have 30 minutes to prepare a four- to six-minute speech, and respond to five minutes of questions following delivery. He received a silver emblem in the event.
Gabe Greiner competed in the Creed Speaking contest. The National FFA Creed Speaking CDE is designed to recognize outstanding FFA members for their ability to present the National FFA Creed in a competitive setting. Members deliver the Creed from memory and respond to three questions. The event gives FFA members the opportunity to develop their ability to communicate in a powerful, organized and professional manner. Gabe received a gold. Macy Marek and McKenna Brinning were nominated to the district ballot and addressed the delegates.
