INDIANAPOLIS ? 1945 Fairfield High School graduate Milo Hamilton has been named the 2009 ?King of Baseball.?
The Houston Astros? Hall of Fame radio broadcaster was given recognition at the annual winter meeting banquet in Indianapolis Thursday night. The annual tradition salutes a veteran from the baseball world for long-time dedication and service.
Hamilton?s resume includes the previous 25 years as voice of the Houston Astros as well as a baseball broadcasting history that dates back to 1950. The 1992 Ford C. Frick award winner from the Major League Baseball Hall of Fame began his career with the Davenport Quads of the Three-I league and has made major league stops with St. Louis, Chicago Cubs, Chicago White Sox, Atlanta and Pittsburgh.
In addition to being the play-by-play announcer for the 1979 world champion Pittsburgh Pirates, Hamilton has called 11 no-hitters, Roger Maris? 61st home run in 1961 and Henry Aaron?s historic 715th home run in 1974. The Fairfield native is also a member of the National Radio Hall of Fame and the Texas Radio Hall of Fame.
