FHS student honored for poem

Fairfield High School and Alliance for Young Artists & Writers, the nonprofit organization that presents the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards, present FHS senior Emma Carlson with a gold medal for her poetry titled 'I'm Sorry.”

This is a remarkable achievement for Carlson, FHS and the community. 'Emma Carlson's award is quite prestigious,” said FHS Principal Brian Stone.

Nearly 340,000 works of art and writing were submitted to the 2019 Scholastic Awards. Carlson's work was selected by some of the foremost leaders in the visual and literary arts for excellence in originality, technical skill, and the emergence of a personal voice or vision. Receiving a National Medal places Carlson's poem within the top 1 percent of all submissions.

Carlson is the daughter of Eric and Christine Carlson.
