The weekly church service services were provided by Pastor Rick Zickefoose representing the Brighton United Methodist Church. The sermon was titled 'Holy Week.” Scripture from John 12:12 and following. Beth Janecek served as pianist.
A new activity 'Embroidery with Sherry Sieren” is a new experience for some Halcyon House residents and a refresher course for others. Sherry is teaching everyone the fundamentals of embroidering hand towels. The residents find that embroidering is very relaxing and great exercise for the hands.
Arborwood residents enjoyed baking yummy banana muffins with Lifestyle Coordinator Lori Pemberton this past week. The smell of baking muffins wafted throughout Arborwood. The warm, moist, and delicious muffins brought a smile to everyone's face.
The evening movie at Sagewood on Thursday was 'Noah's Ark” starring Jon Voight and Mary Steenburgen. This 1999 Hallmark movie was the most powerful and awe-inspiring epic of all time. In preparation for the Easter holidays 'The Ten Commandments” was the Friday night movie. This classic movie has been around since 1956 starring Charlton Heston, YUL Brynner, and Anne Baxter.
On Friday the households created beautiful Easter table decorations to decorate the dining room tables. These pastel colored buckets were decorated with bunnies, tulips, and many other colorful flowers. Lifestyle Coordinator Ethel Sieren beautifully decorated the fireplace mantels in each of the households for the Easter holiday.
Monday's trivia program was titled 'Easter Parade.” Everyone started with a word search puzzle and chocolate marshmallow Easter eggs were passed out for a midmorning chocolate boost. We sang two of the most popular Easter songs together: 'Easter Parade” and 'Here Comes Peter Cotton Tail.” The trivia topic was ‘'ow the Easter Parade got started.” The Easter Parade is a New York tradition that dates back to the 1800s. The social elite would attend services at one of the Fifth Avenue churches and parade their new fashions down the Avenue afterward. The 'less to do” would come to see what the latest trends were and many handy seamstresses found inspiration for their clients' wardrobes. The joke of the week was shared to end this hippety-hop program. What do you call 10 rabbits marching backward? A receding hare line.
Halcyon House residents were treated with a delightful musical performance by 'Arts Midwest Folkefest.” The band members originated from Finland and Sweden. They have toured extensively in Europe, North America, and Japan. The band formed in 1999 at the Juvenalia Music Institute in the member's hometown of Espoo, Finland. In 2004, Kardemimmit were nominated for Band of the Year by the Kantele Association, and the next year they won the International Kantele Competition. This once-in-a-lifetime hands-on workshop, lecture and musical experience was enjoyed by everyone. A reception and refreshments followed the Folkefest.
The residents and team members at Halcyon House extend their deepest sympathies to the family and friends of Justis Liles.
