It has been 14 years in the making, but this year should see the completion of the Jefferson County Loop Trail. Monday afternoon Jefferson County Trails Council member Ron Blair, center, accepted a $5,000 check on behalf of the council from TransCanada Corporation.
Blair said, ?This is really great as the last leg of the trail will be completed this year. It will be 8 feet wide and made of concrete so all users can benefit.?
This portion of the trail is from Eighth Street and Gear Avenue to Grimes Avenue, just beyond the soccer field, and is part of the health and wellness promotion by the council. Presenting the check are Sue Biermann, chair of the TransCanada Community Action Team, and Charlie Savely, manager of the Birmingham area. Savely said the trail application qualified for the company?s health and wellness donation and is the first donation of its kind from TransCanada.
