Pastor Maureen Howard representing the Immanuel Lutheran Church provided the weekly chapel service to Halcyon House residents on Sunday, Jan 13. The sermon title was You Are My Beloved; Scripture from Luke 3:15-17,21-22.
Halcyon House resident Betty Osincup returned from her holiday trip via Amtrak to be with her daughter Nancy Roselund and grandson and family at Santa Clarita, California. Betty with her daughter and husband, Donna and Bob Olson boarded Amtrak train at Ft. Madison Dec. 19, arriving at Los Angeles Dec. 21. They stayed with Nancy, leaving by Amtrak Dec. 31 and arrived back to Iowa Jan. 2.
While in California Betty spent time with grandson Joe Roselund and family and had fun with her 22nd great-grandchild, Archer Roselund, 4 years old. Betty and family also attended a Comedy Show. Betty had been to a stand-up performance show about forty years prior. Betty exclaimed 'the language then is not what it is today!” Betty claimed there will be no more comedy shows for Betty and family.
Coming home, Betty, Bob and Donna while riding Amtrak train passed through Albuquerque and Raton, New Mexico, during a blizzard. The train had no problem with the snow. Later that same evening, Betty viewed KCRG weather report regarding the snowfall at New Mexico, which she had seen earlier in person. It was a special time for Betty with family, church friends and activities. Betty claims that her trip to California is likely her last long trip anywhere, due to her advanced age.
Halcyon House Wellness Department hosted See You at the Movies on Saturday, Jan. 12, in the Marshall Game room at Halcyon House. Sybil Thornton, Erma Ropp and several others viewed the movie 'God Bless the Broken Road.” A huge thank-you to Chris Carter for setting up the Marshall Game Room for the movie.
Halcyon House team members so appreciate the First Friend mentors for helping to make our newest residents to feel welcome. First Friend Mentor Gladys Ferguson took Bonnie Buck and Vada Secrest to lunch this past week in the AppleWood Bistro. First Friend mentors review the weekly calendar with our newest residents, give a tour of Halcyon House and invite them to social events, exercise classes and other activities.
Halcyon House residents and team members wish to extend deepest sympathies to the families and friends of Laurita Ross and Mary Etta McDonald.
