Theresa Hora was hostess to Fleur de Lis Club members on Thursday, Sept. 25, 2014, at 1:30 p.m. A short business meeting was led by President Nancy Kimmel. Roll call was answered by seven members telling of a pumpkin memory or story. Several humorous stories were shared. Minutes of the last meeting in June were read by Secretary-Treasurer Linda Birney. It was noted that former member, Jeanette Pearson, had died Sept. 9, 2014, in California.
Theresa then shared information on pumpkins. Pumpkin is a Greek word meaning large melon and is made up of 90 percent water. Illinois is the top producer of pumpkins. Pumpkins are very nutritious and have lots of vitamins. Her fall decorations were pumpkins and gourds, which her parents grew. Some of the names of the various pumpkins were knucklehead, goose bump, jamboree, wee-be-little and baby boo. The large outside pumpkins grown were Connecticut Field. She then shared a humorous reading titled Pecans in the Cemetery.
Following the program, Theresa served a tasty dessert as conversation was enjoyed around her fall decorated table.
The next meeting will be Oct. 23, at 1:30 p.m. with Bev Krotz as hostess.
